Exporting Individual Conversations

Quick Start

After installing the extension, pin it to your browser toolbar for easy access. Click the puzzle piece icon, find Perplexity to Obsidian, and click the pin icon.

No Authorization Required

Unlike other extensions, Perplexity to Obsidian works directly with PerplexityAI pages and downloads Markdown files to your local device. No account connection needed!

Exporting Conversations

You have multiple ways to export conversations:

Method 1: Export Entire Conversation (Quick)

1. Open any PerplexityAI conversation
2. Click the extension icon in your browser toolbar
3. Click “Export to Markdown” button
4. The entire conversation will be downloaded as a Markdown file

Method 2: Export from Popup

The extension popup provides quick access to export options:

1. Click the extension icon
2. Review current conversation details
3. Click “Export Current Conversation”
4. File downloads automatically to your Downloads folder

Method 3: Export Opened Tabs

Export all Perplexity conversation tabs in your current window with one click:

1. Open multiple PerplexityAI conversations in different tabs
2. Click the extension icon
3. Click “Export Opened Tabs” button
4. All conversations are exported and downloaded automatically
5. Duplicate tabs are automatically detected and skipped

Perfect for: Users who keep multiple research conversations open and want to export them all at once.

Exported File Format

Each exported Markdown file includes:

YAML Frontmatter

Conversation Content

• Q&A Pairs: Each question and answer formatted with proper Markdown
• Code Blocks: Syntax highlighting preserved
• Images: Embedded with proper Markdown image syntax
• Tables: Formatted as Markdown tables
• Links: All hyperlinks preserved

Optional Sections

Based on your settings:

• Sources: Reference links from PerplexityAI
• Related Questions: Suggested follow-up questions

Customizing Export Content

Configure what gets included in your exports:

1. Open extension popup
2. Toggle settings:
   • Include Sources: Add/remove Sources section
   • Include Related Questions: Add/remove Related Questions section
   • Download Attachments: Download user-uploaded files

File Naming

Exported files are automatically named based on the conversation title:

• Special characters are removed
• Spaces converted to hyphens
• Maximum length enforced
• Example: quantum-computing-basics.md

You can customize the filename pattern in settings.

Opening in Obsidian

After export:

1. Locate the downloaded Markdown file in your Downloads folder
2. Move it to your Obsidian vault
3. Open in Obsidian to view formatted content
4. Use Obsidian’s linking and tagging features to organize

Tips

• Pin the extension for quick access
• Use “Export Opened Tabs” for batch exporting multiple conversations
• Configure export settings before exporting for consistent formatting
• Move exported files to your Obsidian vault for organization

Troubleshooting

Export button not appearing:

• Ensure you’re on a PerplexityAI conversation page
• Refresh the page
• Check that extension is enabled

File not downloading:

• Check browser download settings
• Ensure pop-ups are not blocked
• Try a different browser if issue persists

Formatting issues:

• Verify export settings are configured correctly
• Check that Markdown viewer supports all features
