Configure Perplexity to Obsidian extension settings for optimal export experience
Configure the extension to match your workflow and preferences.
Accessing Settings
- Click the extension icon in your Chrome toolbar
- Click “Settings” or “Options”
- Configure your preferences
Export Content Settings
Include Sources
Control whether the Sources section is included in exported Markdown files.
Enabled (Default):
- Sources section with reference links included
- Perfect for research and fact-checking
- Maintains attribution
Disabled:
- Sources section omitted
- Cleaner, more focused notes
- Reduces file size
Include Related Questions
Control whether the Related Questions section is included in exported Markdown files.
Enabled (Default):
- Related Questions section included
- Helps discover related topics
- Useful for further research
Disabled:
- Related Questions section omitted
- Cleaner notes
- Reduces file size
File Organization Settings
Space Subdirectories
Automatically organize exported files into subdirectories by Space name.
Enabled:
- Files organized into folders by Space name
- Example:
Research Projects/quantum-computing.md - Better organization for multiple projects
- Maintains Space context
Disabled (Default):
- All files saved to Downloads folder root
- Example:
quantum-computing.md - Simpler structure
Filename Pattern
Customize how exported files are named.
Options:
- Title Only:
conversation-title.md - Title + Date:
conversation-title-2026-01-18.md - Date + Title:
2026-01-18-conversation-title.md - Custom Pattern: Define your own pattern
Attachments Settings
Download User Attachments
Download files uploaded by users in their questions.
Enabled:
- PDFs, documents, images, etc. downloaded to
attachments/folder - Obsidian wiki link format
[[filename]]used in Markdown - All research materials kept together
- Attachments organized by conversation
Disabled (Default):
- Attachments not downloaded
- Only text content exported
- Smaller file sizes
Attachments Folder
Customize where attachments are saved.
Options:
- Relative Path:
attachments/(default) - Absolute Path:
/Users/username/Obsidian/attachments/ - Custom Path: Define your own path
Export Behavior Settings
Auto-Open in Obsidian
Automatically open exported files in Obsidian after download.
Enabled:
- Files open in Obsidian immediately after export
- Requires Obsidian URI handler configured
- Seamless workflow
Disabled (Default):
- Files saved to Downloads folder
- Manual import to Obsidian required
Overwrite Existing Files
Control what happens when exporting a conversation that already exists.
Options:
- Prompt: Ask before overwriting (default)
- Always Overwrite: Replace existing files without asking
- Never Overwrite: Add suffix to filename (e.g.,
file-1.md)
Advanced Settings
Export Delay
Add delay between exports during batch operations.
Options:
- No Delay: Export as fast as possible (default)
- 1 Second: Add 1-second delay between exports
- 2 Seconds: Add 2-second delay between exports
- Custom: Define your own delay
Use cases:
- Avoid rate limiting
- Reduce server load
- More reliable batch exports
Retry Settings
Configure smart retry behavior for failed exports.
Max Retries: Number of retry attempts (default: 3) Retry Delay: Wait time between retries (default: 60s for 429 errors) Exponential Backoff: Increase delay with each retry (default: enabled)
Debug Mode
Enable detailed logging for troubleshooting.
Enabled:
- Detailed logs in browser console
- Export progress tracking
- Error details
- Useful for reporting issues
Disabled (Default):
- Minimal logging
- Better performance
YAML Frontmatter Settings
Customize what metadata is included in YAML frontmatter.
Available Fields:
- Title: Conversation title (always included)
- URL: Source URL (always included)
- Created: Creation timestamp (default: enabled)
- Space: Space name (default: enabled)
- Tags: Auto-generated tags (default: enabled)
- Author: Your username (default: disabled)
- Custom Fields: Add your own metadata fields
Markdown Formatting Settings
Code Block Style
Choose how code blocks are formatted.
Options:
- Fenced: Using triple backticks (default)
- Indented: Using 4-space indentation
Heading Style
Choose how headings are formatted.
Options:
- ATX: Using
#symbols (default) - Setext: Using underlines
List Style
Choose how lists are formatted.
Options:
- Dash: Using
-(default) - Asterisk: Using

Subscription Settings
License Key
Enter your license key for premium features.
- Click “Enter License Key”
- Paste your license key
- Click “Activate”
Premium Features:
- Unlimited batch exports
- Priority support
- Early access to new features
Check for Updates
Automatically check for extension updates.
Enabled (Default):
- Notified when updates are available
- One-click update installation
Disabled:
- Manual update checking required
Reset Settings
Reset to Defaults
Reset all settings to default values.
- Scroll to bottom of settings page
- Click “Reset to Defaults”
- Confirm action
Warning: This action cannot be undone.
Export Settings
Export your current settings as a JSON file.
- Click “Export Settings”
- Save JSON file
- Use for backup or sharing with team
Import Settings
Import settings from a JSON file.
- Click “Import Settings”
- Select JSON file
- Confirm import

Troubleshooting
Settings not saving:
- Check browser storage permissions
- Clear browser cache
- Reinstall extension if issue persists
Attachments not downloading:
- Verify “Download User Attachments” is enabled
- Check browser download permissions
- Ensure sufficient disk space
Files not organizing into subdirectories:
- Verify “Space Subdirectories” is enabled
- Check that conversations have Space assigned
- Ensure Downloads folder has write permissions
